LAHORE: The colourful opening ceremony of Second Quaid-i-Azam Wushu Cup event will be held at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall at 7.00pm on February 26.Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob will grace the inaugural ceremony of the 2-day exciting event being competed under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP). Male players will compete 2nd Quaid-i-Azam Wushu Cup in -42kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -56kg, -60kg and -65kg weight categories. They will also take part in nan quan talu and chang quan events.The women players will contest the wushu cup event in -48, -52kg, -56kg and talu categories during 2nd Quaid-i-Azam Wushu Cup. The competitions of 2nd Quaid-i-Azam Darts Cup will also be held at the same venue from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Feb 27, 2019. Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony.DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar, in a statement on Monday said several top male and female wushu players of nine divisions will demonstrate their skills during the 2-day exciting event. “The game of wushu is getting rapid popularity among the young generation. Punjab is enriched with wushu talent and Sports Board Punjab will continue its efforts to polish this valuable talent”.Sarwar further said: “These kinds of events do provide young players a suitable opportunity to demonstrate their wushu talent. Male and female wushu players must avail this opportunity and improve their games,” he added.Meanwhile, DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar sees the province as the talent breeding ground of the country. He said, Punjab province has plenty of sports talent and it is contributing handsomely in the national sports since long. “Punjab can produce even more impressive results through proper use of existing sports facilities in the province,” Sarwar expressed these views while addressing a meeting of District Sports Officers of the province at National Hockey Stadium on Monday.
