KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Seniors overcame the visiting Canada Seniors cricket team by 64 runs in the opening match of the tour here at the Naya Nazimabad Stadium the other day.Batting first after winning the toss, SSGC posted 213 for eight in the allotted 25 overs. Then they restricted the visitors to 152 for eight to win the match rather leisurely.SSGC got off to a flying start as the opening pair of Aamir Sarfraz (45 off 27 balls) and Ashar Ali (57 off 39 balls) flayed the bowling from the outset. The 50 was raised in only the fifth over and the 100 came in the 11th over.Aamir blasted two sixes and six fours, while Ashar whacked five sixes and as many fours. The momentum was sustained by Dr Jahangir who struck two sixes and four boundaries in his unbeaten 32 off 18 balls.Left-arm medium-pacer Nasir Khan (4-23) was the pick of the Canadian bowlers. Medium pacer Raffat claimed two wickets for 20 runs.Canada lost wickets upfront and failed to recover with the asking rate soaring beyond their reach. They were undone by the spin duo of Sohail Mehdi (2-16) and Arsalan Mateen (2-30), who shared the new ball.Skipper Talal Ahmed’s 37 off 32 balls, including one six and three fours, and Salman Shah’s 31 off 25 balls allowed the visiting side to reduce the margin of defeat as they added 71 for the seventh wicket after the top six were back in the hut with only 78 on the board.The Canadians have arrived for a 10-day visit during which they will be playing seven limited overs games.They will now be playing against Rashid Latif Cricket Academy here at the UBL Sports Complex before taking on Rafiq Shirazi Club at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium and confronting Omar Associates at the Aga Khan University Ground.
