ISLAMABAD: Just more than week after an Australian terrorists martyred worshippers in two of the Christchurch mosques, World Squash Federation (WSF) has allotted World’s Men’s Championship to New Zealand city of Tauranga. As many as 50 Muslims lost their life as a terrorist went on shooting spree in two separate mosques. Usually international sports bodies feel reluctant to give hosting right to any country once such terrorist attack occurs in that particular country. The WSF happens to be too quick in awarding the one of the most prestigious events of world squash calendar to a country even when the dust of terrorist activity has not settled down. The decision by the WSF was finalised the other day where the New Zealand has been given the right to host 2021 World Team Championship, an event where over 200 players and officials around the world are expected to compete. The decision clearly shows world squash body’s double standard. The one policy that is adopted for the Pakistan and the other that is there for rest of the world. Even one of the safest cities in the whole South Asia, hosting events requires extra five thousand dollars per international tournament to pacify the bias hunger of the world body in the name of security cover. The two international events to be held during the first ten days of April in Islamabad requires an extra ten thousand dollars (five thousand dollar for each tournament) to be paid by organisers to give all clear to stage the PSA event. This useless and total unjust exercise is not only putting extra pressure on the sponsors, it is also an unjust and highly deplorable practice that creates totally false impression in the mind of visitors regarding the security situation in Islamabad. The capital city is so safe that not a single terrorist activity ever was monitored here. Some major cities in India, Iran, Egypt and now even New Zealand are not void of such attacks. Comparatively Islamabad is the safest of cities around. In the city where thousands of foreigners live and enjoy their life to the fullest, walking around on deserted streets and shopping in the busiest of malls such an unnecessary and uncalled for condition on the part of WSF does not hold any solid reasons.Though different reasons are being given for this uncalled for attitude of world body for Pakistan, the one that seems to be more obvious is the Indian dominance in WSF. Like cricket where every unsuccessful attempt was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to deprive Pakistan cricket for its just right, WSF has failed to deal with such challenges in fair manner. The difference is that the world cricket body has proved more sensible to take such decisions on merit while in squash the general impression is rather opposite. Hardly the managers seem taking realistic approach towards Pakistan which is not only unjust but even harmful for the future of the game on a broader prospective.
