KARACHI: It took almost three days for the Pakistan cricket authorities to lodge their protest against India’s use of army caps during their third ODI against Australia in Ranchi. But the International Cricket Council (ICC) took little time in rejecting Pakistan Cricket Board’s “strong notice” saying that the Indian cricket board (BCCI) had sought and was granted permission which allowed Indian players to wear camouflage caps in last Friday’s game.Ehsan Mani, the PCB chairman, had claimed that the India cricket team had taken permission for some other purpose from the ICC. He had said that action should be taken against them for wearing the military caps. The ICC in a statement said India was granted permission to wear camouflage military caps in the third ODI against Australia as a tribute to the country’s armed forces. “The BCCI sought permission from the ICC to wear the caps as part of a fundraising drive and in memory of fallen soldiers who have died, which was granted,” ICC’s General Manager Strategic Communications Claire Furlong said in a statement.PCB had sent a strongly-worded letter to the ICC, calling for action against India for wearing the caps. “They took permission from ICC for some other purpose and used it to do something else, which is not acceptable,” PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said here on Sunday. —with inputs from agencies
