ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakh-tunkhwa Olympic Association and KP Sports Board are excited about the prospects of hosting the 33rd edition of the National Games that are most likely to be shifted from Quetta following the meeting of the POA General Council on March 31.KP Olympic Association President Syed Aqil Shah and Director General Sports Board KP Junaid Khan expressed their willingness to take all possible steps to host the event if given opportunity by the POA General Council.“I still feel that Balochistan (Quetta) deserves the right to host the Games and they should do that. If the POA General Council that meets on March 31 decides giving the responsibility to KP Association, we would most willingly accept this responsibility. KP has got history of hosting mega events in a befitting manner and we are ready to do that again,” Aqil Shah said.Aqil Shah also met Junaid Khan Friday to discuss the possibility of hosting the Games.“Yes, we would extend all possible support to the KP Olympic Association. However, the decision to support and release the required funds rest with the chief minister of KP. Under his directions KP Sports Board is ready to extend all possible help for the Games,” Junaid told Aqil during a joint meeting held in Peshawar.Meanwhile, Aqil Shah while taking to ‘The News’ said Peshawar always offered the best infrastructure for the Games.“Admitted that Islamabad offers the best facilities for the Games, Peshawar is the second best city when it comes to extending infrastructure and facilities for holding such Games.”‘The News’ has learnt that a delegation of KP Olympic Association headed by Syed Aqil Shah will soon meet CM Mahmood Khan to get a go-ahead to make a bid for the Games. The 33rd edition of the Games was supposed to be held in Quetta almost three years back.
