PSA satisfied with security situation in PakistanBy Waqar HamzaKARACHI: Professional Squash Association (PSA), the international governing body for professional squash circuit, has expressed satisfaction over the two international tournaments scheduled in April in Islamabad.The war-like scenario between Pakistan and India recently had put serious doubts over the possibility of these two events happening with the participation of dozens of foreign men and women players.After a security analysis, PSA has decided that the events will be hosted peacefully in Pakistan with foreign players participating.Tour Assistant PSA Olly Kell informed ‘The News’ that they were in touch with their security consultants and that they were proceeding with the two high-prize events.“We have been in touch with our security contacts and we are proceeding with the events as before after assessing the current situation with Pakistan and India,” said Olly.PSA hopes that these two events will be successful since they are the first international PSA events of 2019. “We hope the tournaments will be a great success this year,” added Olly.As many as 29 foreign players are to participate in the $30,000 CAS International Squash Championship (16 foreign players) and the $20,000 Serena Hotel Huawei International Squash Tournament (13 foreign players).The players are from Scotland, Egypt, Hong Kong, Spain, Kuwait, Ireland, and South Africa.Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has to submit security plans to Sports Risk, the PSA consultants, for hosting international events in Pakistan.Sometimes, special teams of Sports Risk come to Pakistan to monitor security arrangements. They then submit reports in the light of which PSA decides the allotment of international events to Pakistan. Pakistan has many times faced cancellation of PSA events because of security concerns.
