KARACHI: The two-year contract of Pakistan's Iranian volleyball coach Hamid Movahedi ended on Monday.Movahedi, who developed Pakistan's various age-group teams during his two-year stint as a coach, is being relieved because Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is not going to extend his contract."Yes, the PSB is not in a position to help us keep Movahedi any more," a senior official of Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) told 'The News' on Monday. The official said that he would be paid his dues soon. "We have sought the assistance of the Asian and world bodies for hiring a new coach but the issue is that the world body (FIVB) cannot help us much financially. Foreign coaches have high demand and it's not easy to keep them without massive funding from the government," the official said. This correspondent tried to contact Movahedi but he did not receive the calls. Movahedi is in Pakistan. Under his supervision, Pakistan last year defeated strong China and India in the Asian Games in Indonesia.Movahedi did a fine job and PVF is happy with the way he worked to build Pakistan's various age-groups teams. "No doubt we acknowledge his fine services he rendered for Pakistan's volleyball during his two-year stint with us. He was hard working and has instilled a new life in our various age-group teams," a PVF official said."It is unfortunate that we cannot keep him any more because of financial issues," the official was quick to add.
